Scoutmaster Notes

Posted on Dec 3 2019 - 8:53am

ASMs, Committee Members and Parents,

  • I've noticed some confusion among the adults on the new adult supervision requirements published in the Guide to Safe Scouting.  I've copied them below.  In summary, we need two registered adult leaders on all scouting acitivities and there can never be any one-on-one contact between adult leaders and a scout.

Scenario:  The activity is an overnight campout. We can only put together two registered adult leaders to supervise.  That's legal.  So, on the campout, one group wants to take a day hike to a creek and the other group wants to stay in camp.  One adult leader goes with the hiking group and the other stays with the group that remains in camp.  Although not ideal for safety reasons, it's legal as long as there is no one-on-one contact. Each group would have to have multiple scouts in it.

How do we adhere to the 2 registered adult leader requirement in the car?  It's not required as long as there is no one-on-one contact. So, you are legal as long as you have more than one additional person in the car.

  • Adult Supervision

Two registered adult leaders 21 years of age or over are required at all Scouting activities, including meetings.  Notwithstanding the minimum leader requirements, age- and program- appropriate supervision must always be provided.

2020 SUMMER CAMP

Posted on Oct 21 2019 - 11:51pm

Troop:

The majority of the troop voted for James Justice National Scout Camp in Bechtel WV.   Therefore, we have locked in the week of July 5- July 11, 2020 (click here to register). The Troop has an annual obligation to support the Hillsboro Independence day celebration June 28, 2020 so the week of June 28 to July 4 was not an option.
