Scouts needed for Hillsboro Dedication Ceremony, tomorrow, 5/11 - 10:00 am to noon

Posted on May 10 2013 - 11:16am

Hi Troop,

As discussed at last night's Troop meeting, we are looking for some Scouts to participate in a local event and provide ceremonial assistance on very short notice. Participating in this event is good for service hours and presents an opportunity to earn a historic trails award.

Information from Lisa Craig about the event and what she needs:

Arnoldgrove.weebly.com has everything you need to know about the purpose of this event.

We need scouts close to 10am, ceremony at 11 for about an hr. FULL class A (sash, kerchief, long pants). We will give all instructions at 10, they are basically escorting descendants to graves and unveiling headstones. They can earn historic trails award if you also coordinate a campout soon. [The Troop can look into the requirements and set up a campout for Scouts who want to earn the award.]

We do need to know # of scouts ahead of time because if we are short we will coordinate at 10am w/ societies to fill in. Let me know how can help. If not for the award, they can definitely get service hours and we do expect a lot of Hillsboro to be there.

This information is posted on the Troop Website along with a sign up, if you can participate, please sign up so I can let Ms. Craig know and plan accordingly.

Yours in Scouting,
Anthony Doherty

Hello Everyone,

As many of you know, Spring has begun, and that means that it's time for Eagle Scout projects, including mine.  Mine will be held on Saturday April 27th at Seldens Landing Elementary School in Leesburg, starting at 8:30 AM until about 4-5 PM.  If we are unable to finish on Saturday, work will continue on Sunday.  We will be constructing a garden there, including a retaining wall, and planting many flowers and shrubs.  Please bring as many of the items on the list below if you have them:
  • Water
  • Gloves
  • Closed-toed shoes
  • Shovels
  • Trowel
  • Hard metal rake
  • Sunglasses and a hat
  • Sunscreen

Congrats to Karl Canby

Posted on Mar 4 2013 - 4:33pm

For those of you that were not fortunate enough to be at the weekly Troop meeting Thursday, we held the semi-annual election for the next Troop 961 SPL. The two candidates that ran for the position were Karl Canby and Rob Wallace, two fine candidates I might add. It was a fairly close race, but in the end, Karl was elected. He will officially take over as the new SPL at the next Court of Honer on March 14th. Please be sure to make that meeting to share in the advancements of your fellow scouts and to congratulate Karl in his new role.

Please also remember to thank our outgoing SPL, Kyle Romine. Kyle has served the Troop well as our current SPL and has done an especially great job of setting a high standard of weekly communication for the Troop meetings. I look forward to Karl following Kyle's lead in this valuable skill, and to build on this foundation and keep the Troop moving forward.

Congratulations to Kyle for a job well done, and to Karl for earning the support of the Troop to take on this role and continue to lead the way.
